ABIDJAN - The AKDN (Aga Khan Development Network), one of the largest private development networks in the world, announced Tuesday the opening in September of the first agency of micro-finance Côte d’Ivoire to ” contribute to the fight against poverty “.
An agreement establishing the agency was signed Tuesday in Abidjan between Ivorian government and the AKDN, in the presence of Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo and the Aga Khan.
The agency, the 7th of the AKDN in Africa, “will have a capital of $ 7 million,” said Jacques Toureille, Director General of the Aga Khan Agency for micro-finance (AKAM), promising d ‘capital increase this to 20 million dollars in the coming years.
The first branch offices will open in September in northern Cote d’Ivoire, where the group Aga Khan is also present in the cotton sector.
“The agency will help people who are in a precarious situation in rural areas to evolve to have a stable life with credit,” said Toureille. ”
The AKDN’s mission is to improve living conditions and contribute to economic development in the poorest countries.
