The ecstatic, impassioned music of Central Asia could be the next big thing in world music.
But David Harrington, founder and leader of the Kronos Quartet, was ahead of the game. He first encountered the great Azerbaijani singer Alim Quasimov 20 years ago. Now, thanks to the generosity of the Aga Khan Foundation, the Kronos quartet have worked with Quasimov and his five musicians to create a continuous suite of Azerbaijani songs, woven together with instrumental interludes.
