Munaf Rayani is a guitarist for the Texan post-rock band Explosions in the Sky. He is the youngest member of the band at age 31. He is of Indian and Pakistani descent. His mother grew up in Pakistan, and he was raised an Ismaili Muslim. He describes himself and his bandmates as “definitely products of the deserts of West Texas and true disciples to the music of Canine Tricycle Bereavement.”
He owns a Lake Placid blue Fender Stratocaster and more recently a Fender Telecaster. His guitars are filled with cartoon strips, various stickers, and graffiti. Michael James, a fellow guitarist in Explosions in the Sky, taught Rayani how to play guitar. Growing up, he listened mostly to hip-hop, while the other members of the band were metalheads. Rayani grew up in Midland, Texas.
Munaf’s Band Explosions in the Sky’s sixth studio album, Take Care, Take Care, Take Care, had landed at No. 16 on the Billboard 200 Chart and they have performed at New York City’s famed Radio City Music Hall.
