The songs were composed and sung by the iconic Tanzanian personality, Allidina Jamal, who was the Mukhi of Dar-es-Salaam’s Upanga Ismaili Jamatkhana during the 1960′s. Before assuming the post as Mukhi, he would be regularly called upon to recite verses from Pir Hasan Kabirdin’s composition “Anant Akhado” to the delight of the Jamat. The few verses that he sung from this monumental composition before the first Dua provided immense inspiration to everyone in attendance, setting the stage and religious fervour for the prayers that followed.
Thank you for posting.
This remarkable recording was earlier posted on Ismaili Mail in 2009 ( see http://ismailimail.wordpress.com/2009/10/08/south-african-music-archive-project-swahili-geets-from-1952-by-allidina-jamal-walji-luvungivalla/). But there was no background provided on the composer. Thank you Simerg for giving us some information on Mukhi Allidina Jamal.
In the SAMAP website, the name of the composer is “Allidina Jamal Walji Luvungivalla”. It should read Allidina Jamal Jivraj of Dar es salaam.
