  1. What a scintillating picture! My family used to visit the port of Maputo(formerly known as Lorenco Marques and before that, Delgoa Bay) in Mozambique during the 1960s and 1970s and I remember this Jamat Khana vividly. It was described by our Imam as one of the best in Africa. In fact this port may have been where the famous 4 Keshavjee brothers jumped ship in 1894 or thereabouts on their way to the Transvaal province of South Africa to form a family dynasty now scattered over all four corners of the earth.

    Maputo was to Pretoria and Johannesburg what Mombasa is to Nairobi and Zanzibar is to Dar-es-Salaam: a superb vacation spot with sharknet-protected beaches and afternoon tea with cucumber sandwiches at the Polana Hotel, now known as the Serena-Polana Hotel, an AKDN property.

    THE WHOLE CITY WAS DECORATED WITH GOLDEN JUBILEE DECORATIONS
