Special plans have been chalked out for the smooth flow of traffic during the month of Ramazan and for this purpose NGOs and civil defence personnel will help the authorities to ensure resolution of gridlock issue in the metropolis.

This was decided in a meeting held under the chairmanship of DCO Karachi, Javed Hanif Khan to review arrangements made following the orders of Supreme Court to ensure smooth flow of traffic during the holy month. The DCO was apprised by the senior officers that besides the assistance from of NGOs, Aga Khan Scouts would also help to control traffic. The meeting also decided to launch a campaign to create traffic awareness among masses.

It is worth mentioning here that digging up of various roads and leaving the same unattended by various utility services, is one of the main reasons for gridlocks. The DCO did not discuss any of these issues and directed the authorities to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

The encroachment is the biggest hurdle in the smooth flow of traffic and vendors have occupied majority of the roads thus reducing the road capacity at major thoroughfares.
