Dr Karim Damji - new Glaucoma procedure in testing
Melinda Amyotte has a post-procedure exam with Dr. Karim Damji.

Sherwood Park resident Melinda Amyotte has found herself participating in a new minimally-invasive procedure to treat people with glaucoma.

In the still-experimental procedure, a needle is used to make a tiny hole into the natural drainage system of the eye that is suffering from glaucoma, explained Dr. Karim Damji, a glaucoma specialist and ophthalmologist at Edmonton’s Royal Alexandria Hospital, where Amyotte’s procedure was performed.

Called a trabectome, the procedure is the only treatment for glaucoma that directly addresses the eye’s natural system for draining fluids.
