Taleeb Noormohamed: Vancouver Olympic VP wants to be an MPNORTH VANCOUVER — John Furlong, the Vancouver Olympics chief executive, refuses to run for political office. But one of his lieutenants wants a seat in the House of Commons.

Taleeb Noormohamed, who was VANOC’s vice-president of strategy and partnerships, is seeking the federal Liberal nomination in North Vancouver. The riding is held by Conservative Andrew Saxton, who defeated two-time Liberal incumbent Don Bell in 2008.

“If there’s one lesson we learned from the Games, it’s how you get communities, people, individuals excited about something,” said Noormohamed, 34. “There’s a lot to be excited about in North Van.”

North Vancouver-raised Noormohamed unsuccessfully sought the Liberal nomination in Vancouver Centre in 2004.
