Alkarim Devani: Busy home builder keeps groundedChris Nelson, Calgary Herald – Published: Wednesday, March 12, 2014

He’s 30 years old, is building $3-million homes and is a principal in a Calgary-based menswear label, but Alkarim Devani finds it easy to stay grounded.

Any delusions of grandeur are easily swept aside by recalling the struggles his parents faced when they arrived in this city almost 40 years ago after fleeing Congo.

His mom’s first-born child was diagnosed with cancer and, speaking no English, she had to try to navigate through the health-care system of this strange new country. Sadly the boy died but Devani’s parents persevered.
