Cultural Diplomacy: Aga Khan Museum – The Road to Toronto via Parma, London, Paris, Lisbon … Lessons from the European Tour

“The Muslim world has always been wide open to every aspect of human existence. The sciences, society, art, the oceans, the environment and the cosmos have all contributed to the great moments in the history of Muslim civilizations. The Qur’an itself repeatedly recommends Muslims to become better educated in order better to understand God’s creation.”

– His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV
Keynote Address – ‘Musée-Musées’ Round Table Conference, Louvre Museum, Paris, France October 17, 2007

“My own family has been intimately involved in Islamic cultural history, notably during the Fatimid Caliphate which founded one of the world’s first, great universities in Cairo. The core collection of the new Museum in Toronto includes elements that have been gathered by my family through many generations, including the miniatures collected by my uncle, the late Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, which will be displayed in a replica of the Bellerive room from my late uncle’s home in Geneva. We are deeply grateful to Princess Catherine for this generous gift.”

– His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV
Address – Foundation Ceremony of the Ismaili Centre, Gardens and Aga Khan Museum – Toronto, Canada  May 28, 2010
