Event – October 3 to November 6 | Aga Khan University, London, UK | Exhibition – The Political Aesthetics of Global Protest: The Arab Spring and Beyond

Institute for the Study of Muslim CivilisationsThis exhibition marks the release of a new AKU-ISMC and EUP publication edited by Pnina Werbner (Keele University), Martin Webb (Goldsmiths College, University of London) and Kathryn Spellman-Poots (AKU-ISMC).  The Aesthetics of Global Protest: The Arab Spring and Beyond explores the aesthetic dimensions of the Arab Spring and worldwide protest movements from 2010.

The exhibition, open to the public until 6th November, will showcase visual media related to some of the key themes discussed in the book, including carnival and dissent and national versus universal figures and symbols. While these images and video footage capture key moments, their wide-ranging subject matter enables the observer to look back at what has occurred across the globe – providing a complex and dynamic narrative, challenging perceptions and offering new insights.
