KITE 2016 – The First Telangana International Kite Festival underway at the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad

The two-day International Kite Festival  (14–15 January) has begun on a grand note here at Aga Khan Academy at Ravirala village under Maheshwaram mandal of Ranga Reddy district near Shamshaad International Airport here with Tourism Minister Ajmira Chandulal formally flying a kite.

Speaking on the occasion, the Tourism minister said the Hyderabad city, which was becoming a global destination, will witness rapid strides in Tourism sector. The International Kite Festival is being celebrated at the directive of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to get international recognition, he said. The TRS government was planning to conduct many more such international festivals in Hyderabad in future, he said.

The minister extended thanks to all participants and asked them to enjoy the event on the last day on January 15. Aga Khan Academy chief Dr Joffrey Fisher, Tourism Secretary Burra Venkatesham, Table Tennis player Saina Jaiswal, officials, students and their parents attended the program in sizeable numbers. Some 30 foreigners were seen flying kites of different sizes and attractive colours.

About the Telangana International Kite Festival

KITE 2016, Telangana’s first international kite festival will be held on 14–15 January 2016 at the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad campus.

This two-day event is an exciting initiative by the Department of Youth Advancement, Tourism and Culture of the Telangana State Government, in collaboration with Shilparamam, the arts, crafts and cultural village; the Architecture and Design Foundation, India; and the Royal Kite Flyers Club of India.

KITE 2016 aims to promote women’s empowerment, particularly girl child education, and to raise awareness and support for merit-based opportunities to access world class education through collaboration with NGO’s, and corporates and government agencies.
