His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan to invest €100 million to build Aga Khan Academy in Portugal

One of the Ismaili Imamat’s first project in the country will be building the Aga Khan Academy in the greater Lisbon area.

It will be the first Aga Khan Academy in Europe.

Plans are for it to receive about a thousand students in the first round, with the opening planned for 2018, and it will accept children from five years of age to college age.

The investment is budgeted at one hundred million euros and follows the installation of the Seat of Ismaili Imamat – world headquarters of the Ismaili Imamat in Lisbon.

Admission will be needs and social classes blind. It will be based on merit and talent of the candidates, who will pay fees according to their household income.  The goal is to provide an education of excellence for students from Portuguese and Lusophone group of countries (PALOP).

Currently, Aga Khan Academy exist in India, Kenya and Mozambique, and with an addition 15 planned across Africa, Asia and Middle East.

In addition to education, culture is another of the foundation’s investment areas in Portugal. In this regard, Alvaro Siza’s exhibition: Gateway to the Alhambra is scheduled to open later this month at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, Canada.

    18 planned Academy’s will be very beneficial to all students and especially the fees charged according to household income of each child, will enable so many who want to study more and have less income will be able
    to now go all the way to University and further. Congratulations.
