On Saturday, July 8, the Museum galleries are open until 11 pm.

ABOUT THE TAPESTRY:

  • Your Way Begins on the Other Side was the first contemporary work acquired by the Museum
  • The handmade tapestry contains more than 1.2 million gold-plated and stainless steel pins
  • The tapestry is six metres long and weighs approximately 400 pounds
  • Artist Aisha Khalid was inspired by a traditional four-part Persian garden or chahar bagh
  • The tapestry title comes from a poem by Sufi mystic Rumi
  • Khalid worked with a large team of people for four months to complete the handmade tapestry
  • The tapestry’s fabric is silk and velvet
  • Like other fragile objects in the Museum’s Permanent Collection, the tapestry requires time away from light to extend its life
