Dr Somani is an individual who converses in many languages and has worked in public service for twelve years, hence his vast knowledge in different cultures.

I wrote the novel shattered lives because it was a very important part of our lives. We had a wonderfully successful community in Uganda prior to the situation created by Edi Amin. I think everybody connected to East African Asians should know the history of their families. I’m aware, some of us live in Europe, USA Canada and we say, ‘life is much better’, but, I say to you, ‘don’t write our past off’, we had a great and fantastic community before we arrived here from Uganda. I also think if we were honest, in many ways life had a better quality in those days then today. Of course, we are successful in our new lives also but, the closeness was just something else in those days. If you get a chance read the book.

This novel is a fantastic read, it gives my generation born here in the UK, an opportunity to understand what life was like for our parents and families back in Uganda. The novel not only narrates the story of life and events back in Uganda, but is an emotional rollercoaster.
This is a must read for everyone, especially those of us who have links to East Africa, it shows us how dramatically life can change, and how we can do nothing to stop this happening.

The book is an interesting read, a very emotional journey. Once you pick this book up it becomes an addiction, unable to put down.

Temporal arthritis (also known as giant cells arthritis) is a terrible illness and my new book will explain the effects it has on a person. I think, when illness hits the person it almost destroys that person and his/her family. I’m writing about how this illness which blinds the person permanently and the treatment totally changes the individual. It’s worth reading and knowing.

Shattered Lives adopts gripping style and language, so reader friendly without the excessive complications of textbook grammar. I thoroughly enjoyed the language technique – a conversation between an author and his reader, creating great emotional levels of intimacy. This is a beautifully written, moving account of a dramatic transition inflicted on people’s lives during the Idi Amin regime in 1972.

Shattered Lives is a book that you will not be able to put down. You will wake in the night, wanting to read the next chapter (then the next, then the next!!). A novel that takes the reader through a journey of emotions, an eye opening story that makes us understand what life was like during, before and after the era of Idi Amin.
